Day 14: A day to give thanks

Posted On : 15 Apr 2012

We started our day by visiting the Bahrain embassy in Muscat and met with H.E. Mohammed Saleh Al Shaikh and presented to him a copy of 101 Things to See and Do in Oman. He asked us for more copies since the Indian Ambassador had called him and asked for a copy of the book.

He also congratulated us on the trip and gave us an idea for a new trip, maybe from Morocco to Manama and Muscat starting from the Ocean to the Gulf and he recounted his old days in school. The proposed trip would start in Africa to Europe and finish in Asia, and he also offered his support for the expedition. We thanked him for his great idea and assured him that we will consider it for one of our future expeditions.

The team and myself are very grateful to the National Ferries Company for providing us with tickets for our trip from Musandam to Muscat and we went to thank them personally. We met with the Chairman Mahdi Al Abdwani and presented him a copy of our book 101 Things to see and Do in Oman. He assured us of his full support for our future publications and our trips.

We also met Ghazi Abdullah Al Zedjali, Marketing Manager, Essam Al Lawati, Marketing Specialist and Nabhan Al Nabhani. All of them them assured us of their full support to any future trips and publications and that gave us the support to do even more to promote Oman.

Our last stop was visiting Al Mouj Golf, one of our advertisers and we met with Jummana, PA for the marketing manager who gave us a tour of the Golf Club and also introduced us to General Manager ST John Kelliher who is an Irish national. We presented to him copies of two of our 101 series publications, on Oman and Ireland. John also spoke to us about his town in Ireland which has 15,000 residents but attracts 4,000,000 tourists. It is a good example of how tourism is important not only for countries, but also for small towns. We talked to him about our first Friendship Arabia, Dilmun to Dublin, and he was delighted to hear about our tour.

It is always nice to meet people that you know and meet new ones who believe in our work and offer full support. It is indeed a special feeling and gives us new ideas for future trips.
