1 - What are the things you like most about Bahrain?

The beautiful Kingdom of Bahrain is home of people from many different countries. I love meeting new people and experience new cultures. A lot of my friends are from all over the world, for example Netherlands, USA, Spain, Chile, South Africa, Austria etc.

I also have amazing friends and colleagues from Bahrain. I admire their kindness, hospitality and enjoy the local traditions as well as the culture.

Every time I arrive in Bahrain when having been abroad it feels like home.

2 - What are on your must-see and do list in Bahrain?

First, I would go to the old Manama Souq in Bab Al Bahrain and go for an amazing breakfast at Haji’s Traditional Cafe – Haji’s is Bahrain’s first restaurant, established in 1950.

Next would be The Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site commemorating Bahrain's history. It has a small museum next to it where you can learn more about the old days as well as a beautiful café to sit and relax by the Fort.

My next to go place is The La Fontaine. It is an historical monument, 150 years old and located in the heart of Manama. It captures the grand essence of a European chateau, while retaining the charm of fine Gulf Islamic architecture, restored, and renovated by French artist jean Marc Sinan. It features art galleries, an open-air amphitheater, and a fine dining restaurant (love their salad’s).

Very traditional is the Muharraq Souq, it is one of the oldest markets on the island with small streets and little shops. A little further from the Muharraq Souq you will find the Pearling Path.

The Pearling Path is one of my favorites. The tour must be done with Ali Hussain Mushaima from “your Bahrain” (www.yourbahrain.com). 2012 “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy” has become a second World Heritage Site of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Pearling Path is a 3,5km stretch that snakes through the old alleyways of Muharraq. IT IS JUST MAGNIFICENT!

There are many more must-see places in Bahrain, but these are my favorite destinations.

3- What are your suggestions for restaurants and must-eat dishes?

Bahrain is so diverse that you can find all cuisines. There are excellent restaurants catering to all audiences and taste buds.

A must-visit is Haji’s Traditional Café for breakfast. It is an open-air classic Arabic café in the old Manama Souq next to Bab Al Bahrain. It serves excellent local cuisine – egg tomato with a cup of karak, a side of dal lentils and freshly baked bread. Have a chat with Suhair, whose family owns the place. He’s a great guy.

Dolphine Restaurant at the Cornice is just the best place for fresh fish. Sit right next to the sea and enjoy great food. The best time to go is for lunch.

Monsoon in Adliya – From its breathtaking interior to its far Eastern cuisine of Thai, Japanese & Vietnamese dishes. Monsoon is an ultimate fine dining experience.

Lanterns Lounge & Restaurant in Adliya – It is a combination of nice atmosphere with live music, sitting with friends and great Indian cuisine in a beautiful outdoor garden.

For a real traditional dinner experience in Bahrain, you can go together with a local to - Shams Aliraq Restaurant - for the best lamb Kebab, Iraqi meat, chicken tikka and mixed grilled on the island.

4- What are the items to buy in Bahrain and where?

I just love buying fresh food.

A must go is The Hidd Fish Market. You get the freshest fish and interact with the nicest fisherman. The market is located within the Hidd Fishing Harbour where the daily catch is sold “direct from the sea” – and always cheaper than the supermarket.

For local fruits and vegetables, you need to visit the Bahrain Farmers Market in Budayia. It’s a beautiful green park with nice and humble people.

The best places to buy beautiful souvenirs from Bahrain is the Muharraq Souq or the Manama Souq.

5- Please mention a not to be missed experience/sight in Bahrain.

If you want an adventure, a must do is boat ride to Jarada Island – “Trip to Paradise” – A small island, more a sand bank, which gives you a real Maldives feeling.

Another not to be missed experience is Sakhir, near Zallaq – with all it’s attractions.

-          Bahrain international circuit and Bahrain international karting circuit for all motorsport enthusiasts

-          Bahrain gravity village with indoor skydiving and an outdoor climbing wall

-          Al Dhana Amphitheater – for concerts and comedians

A little further you can find an amazing, clean, and new beach area – Al Jazair Public Beach, for paddle boarding, kite surfing and swimming.

6- What do you say about Bahrain people's hospitality?

From my personal experience Bahrainis are approachable, humble, and kind. They are hospitable and ready to help you when needed. I have been living in Bahrain for six years and have formed some beautiful friendships.  THANK YOU, BAHRAIN!
