1. What are the things you like the most about Bahrain?
The first that comes to my mind is friendliness, hospitality, inclusiveness and diversity of Bahrain's people. Everyone feels welcome and will find their space here. I also love how diverse the country itself...From ancient archeological sites to vibrant modern places and events. And it all fits in this small island.
2. What are on your must see and do list in Bahrain?
Manama souq is a must to visit even if one is visiting for a short time. It's a great place to have a traditional breakfast, do some shopping and in a way travel in time and see how Manama was in the past.
Bahrain fort is a place to go if you like history. I like going there in the afternoon just before sunset.
Another of my favorites is Muhharaq's old house and souq. It's a beautiful walk through the historical area that once was Bahrain's capital populated by pearl merchants and their families.
3. What are your suggestions for restaurants and must eat dishes?
I definitely recommend trying traditional breakfast. My favorite places for that are Haji Cafe and Lumee Street Food Cafe (I also like it for a good grill at dinner or lunch time).
4. What are the items to buy in Bahrain and where?
For some traditional crafts and souvenirs I would recommend going to Capital Mall.
Dates are another thing that my family and friends love to receive when I go visit. Bateel is a nice place to get them.
Halwa or other Arabic sweets that you can get from one of the sweets shops one the way to Muharraq souq.
5. Please mention a not to be missed experience/sight in Bahrain?
A really great experience is driving karts in the BIC Karting circuit. It's a professional circuit that not only hosts international races but also gives the opportunity to experience what it is to drive a kart there for everyone.
The sight not to be missed for me is Bahrain National Museum. It gives an amazing insight to Bahrain's history, culture and traditions.
6. What do you say about Bahrain people's hospitality?
Bahrain people's hospitality and friendliness are the things that make you never want to leave the island. That is exactly what happened to me almost ten years ago.
My name is Giedre Bartret and I work as a Tourist Guide here in Bahrain. I love showing the visitors around the island and sharing my knowledge about Bahrain with them.
