The earliest recorded references of Bahrain date to the third millennium BC when the island was known as Dilmun. An entire 22,500 square meter village from that era has been excavated, unearthing, stunning chapters in the island's history. The digs at Saar Archaeological Site have proved the existence of an organized lifestyle with well-ordered roads, houses with courtyards and a central marketplace. Finds from the site are on display at the National Museum but for anyone even faintly interested in ancient civilizations, the dig site will be a hugely fascinating experience.
