In 2012, Bahrain gained its second UNESCO World Heritage site, “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy”, comprising 17 buildings in Muharraq City, three offshore oyster beds and part of the seashore and Bu Mahir Fort on the southern tip of Muharraq Island. The historic buildings are dotted along what is known colloquially as the Pearling Path, and a walk along its length is a great way to get a feel for what life must have been like in Bahrain before modernisation and skyscrapers. Pop into some of the restored historical buildings to learn more about the architecture, culture and traditions of Bahrain. Each has been beautifully redesigned and refurbished by local, French and Italian architects and interior designers. To get the most out of your walk, consider a guided tour.
